Rainbow puff stitch beanie – Free pattern

This is a cute and easy puff stitch beanie that works up so quickly –  you will want one in every colour!
Made with a simple ‘double’ puff stitch (double puff stitch tutorial below) and in Magic light multi colour yarn.

This pattern is written in US terms and sizes preemie to Adult Large.

Can I just swoon for a moment 🙂 How gorgeous does my little Plum look in her new Spring beanie – posing like a pro at only 9 months!
I couldn’t find a beanie that was not as thick as Winter ones, as Spring is on its way –  fingers cossed! I wanted something that would be comfortable and cosy when the weather is a bit milder!
I am so pleased with the result! It was a great little stash buster using less than 40g of yarn and I didn’t really need to think while making it. Its a repeat pattern round and round – soooo easy!

If you are not familiar with the puff stitch I have added  photo tutorial below.

DOUBLE PUFF STITCH –

Step 1:  Yarn over hook and insert into indicated stitch, give  little pull until you have a 1cm thread of yarn between hook and your stitches.Step 2:  You should have 3 loops on your hook.
Step 3: Yarn over
Step 4:  Insert the hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull through a loop.  You should have 5 loops on your hook.
Step 5:  Yarn over
Step 6:  Insert the hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull through a loop.  You should have 7 loops on your hook.
Step 7:  Yarn over and insert again. We will do this a total of 5 times.
For this pattern we will secure first puff stitch, and repeat again – 2 puff stitches in the same stitch, chain 1 to secure. Chain 1 again to move on.

Join your last row of puff decreases with a slip stitch.
Fasten off and leave a long tail (13″).
Using a yarn needle weave in and out the gaps of the puffs stitches in the top of your beanie and pull tight to close. Secure with a knot and leave your end attached.

Turn your beanie right side out!

Make your desired size Pom pom and attach.

You can find a pom pom maker to suit your budget here. I recommend the pom pom maker 4 pack, you will have 1 for any size project you choose to make in the future and it is so easy and quick to use. I find the other a bit fiddly.

You have now made yourself or a lucky someone a gorgeous puff stitch beanie to rock this Spring!
